Clay, it's not that easy to do nothing.  I tried to not breathe and only lasted about a minute :-)

Mike, I was only saying the other day. Here we go again, now the federal workers have paid vacation leave. I bet they are having a great time and laughing all the way to the bank. What a farce!

I'm guessing that, not only will they get back pay for time missed, but they will also receive overtime pay to catch up on the backlog.  Years ago, I worked for the post office, and it was no easy task to slow down fast enough upon being hired.

I am surprised that they are not just given unemployment.   Also, most will now work overtime to make up the work time lost so they actually get a bump in pay.

Our tax dollars at work.  It looks to me like both sides are looking for a way out of the mess they created.  They're moving toward the stance we took as second graders facing the prospects of a fight.  "You're lucky I got my good pants on, or I'd beat you up."  Yes, I admit to both hearing and saying that one a few times, but never as an adult -- not even as an adolescent.  We'll hear the political equivalent sometime before the seventeenth.

my daughter works for the federal bankruptcy court. . . her job is "essential" . . . so she is now working with NO PAY. . . in hopes of being paid if the government gets their acts together.  it's so sad!

I'm guessing that she has more than just hopes of getting paid.  Considering that the do-nothings have already agreed that all federal employees, working or not, will be paid, she probably can exchange her hopes for expectations.

Mike this is truly sad, there are people who work their butts off for minimum or no pay (many in our profession) and then there are others who just collect huge pay checks because we voted them in....sad....Endre

We never elect the brightest and best because they are bright enough to choose not to run.  My suspicions are that the elected do-nothings are not the only government do-nothings.  Oregon seems to be the best place for unelected do-nothings.  Those fortunate enough to get paid for not going to their place of employment also get to keep the unemployment benefits they received.

I was confused by the Administration bringing in security to prevent our citizens and veterans from visiting the open air monuments like the WW II Memorial, yet the Administration gave their blessing and provided a stage, security, and audio equipment right across the street to hold a rally for illegal immigrants by the Washington Memorial.  Rally attendees were admited while citizens were kept out.  I guess things were only shut down for certain people.

Bruce, I understand selective enforcement of laws perhaps because I am originally from Chicago.  Nobody knows how to selectively enforce laws like a Chicago politician.
