The Olympia Habitat for Humanity Store location to donate and buy recycled building and home materials - has a brand new location on the westside of Olympia. The new Store is at 400 Cooper Pt Rd on westside Olympia, and they will officially show off their new digs with a grand opening event October 19th from 11 AM until 4 PM.
The Habitat Store is a popular local resource place where you can donate those unneeded old kitchen cabinets, doors, windows, excess flooring materials or tile etc. Then those embarking on a renovation project or outfitting a vacation cabin can enjoy shopping for materials, knowing the price will likely be very attractive compared to retail stores - and the money goes to Habitat for Humanity's work in providing affordable housing options for folks. What a win win situation.
Before the old location closed down, the public was invited in to clean out the remaining items - for free! And it was a sight to behold as people scurried around to see what they could use, and then gather everything from base trim to sinks (and in many cases gather by the door while they waited for that friend with a pickup truck to come help load up the treasures).
As I wandered around, checking out what was available while trying to avoid being run over by people wheeling slider doors toward the exit, I overheard one fellow pretty much sum up the scene "It looks like army ants have descended on the place and are picking it clean!" I got there about 15 minutes after the doors opened and it was pretty clear that there likely would be nothing left by the afternoon, much less the next day.
Now I am looking forward to seeing the new store and all of its offerings - and grateful Olympia has this amazing resource - the Habitat for Humanity Store!
