2013 Lake Harding Fall Drawdown- A drawdown of Lake Harding is scheduled for this October assuming adequate flow conditions exist in the Chattahoochee River to refill the reservoir. The reservoir will start down on Monday, September 30th and will be back to full pool on Monday, November 11th. During the drawdown, fluctuations may occur on a daily basis due to generation, rainfall, or other events. To receive a construction permit for new structures or for maintenance of existing structures, a construction application form must be submitted, along with plans, to Georgia Power for review and approval. An application may be obtained from our website at www.georgiapowerlakes.com.For additional information concerning permits, Alabama residents should call or e-mail Ricky Stearns at 706-317-6047, jrstearn@southernco.com
Georgia residents should call or e-mail Bill Glisson at 706-317-6045, wlglisso@southernco.com
Also, Georgia residents planning to build a new seawall will need to complete a Buffer Disturbance Request form that must be approved by Harris County before a permit will be issued by Georgia Power.Georgia Power is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conserve native freshwater mussels in the Chattahoochee River during drawdowns. Mussels are an important food source for some fish, turtles and mammals, and their filter feeding abilities remove pollution from the water. As water levels recede, mussels may not relocate fast enough. You can help by placing stranded mussels back into the water.
If you have any questions about mussels, please call Sandy Abbott with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Ecological Services Office at (706)544-7518.If you have any questions concerning the drawdown, please call Ricky or Bill at the numbers above or call our office at 706-322-0228.
