Seriously?  A Maui property for sale at $1,280,000 with an outhouse?

Just when you think you've seen it all, along comes an expensive residential property with a 3,200 square foot 4BD/3BA home and a bonus outhouse! Now I know this would not be much of a surprise in some Maui neighborhoods, but I really didn't expect to see it in a nice established subdivision of multi-million dollar homes.

What's the story here?  Sometimes you just have to shake your head and carry on.  This is when you have a conversation with your clients about unpermitted structures on the property, and what it means for buyers and for sellers.

So what's the story with the outhouse?  Uncle Jim had really nasty smelling you-know-what and they wouldn't let him use the facilities in the house?

I agree with comment #9. While it's not very appealing, the outhouse may still have its place.

Maybe thats the only place that the owner can get peace and quiet. Growing out saw a number of outhouses. Used to be reality.

That's funny. I would imagine it could be handy when outdoors but I wouldn't consider it a selling point. :)

that reminds me of the house with the toilet (not a portable) installed 5 feet from the bed in the master bedroom....and no one had a medical problem...the house was built that way.

This is quite surprising...  so you have to deal with it in terms of unpermitted construction.  I'm assuming tha the home has indoor plumbling??

I am totally okay with a nice home having an outhouse. I even tried buying a home once that had an outhouse, specifically because  of the outhouse which  was historic, (and  a three seater).

MY ISSUE, is that once you get into 7 digit pricing, the outhouse should be nicer. This outhouse looks like somethng in the 250,000 and under category.

Wow so many comments!  Definitely not a permitted improvement and very out of place in a nice subdivision.  Older established AG subdivision with parcels of 2-5 acres.  The homeowner is getting behind on the maintenance and needs income so has rented out the garage as a studio apartment.  This is what works for the bathroom I guess.  Really a shame as not that long ago it was a buffed out property with many good features.  Now the yard looks neglected and the whole place needs a really good cleaning, especially to attract a buyer at their asking price.  My buyer clients were amused and also took a picture!

Yes the outhouse could work in the right setting, and believe me I have seen some where it fit right in.

Georgina, I am surprised to say the least...I would expect to see that sort of thing here in Alabama, but I had to read a post about Hawaii to see one!
