Park City now has three of the top ten ski areas in the country according to one preseason readers poll. Canyons Resort is currently ranked number 10, but with Vail taking over ski operations at Canyons, look for this resort to move up the rankings over the next few years as Vail pours money into it's new investment.
From anywhere at Canyons Resort you will be a short walk or bike ride to some of the best hiking and biking trails anywhere in the world. You can also use the Red Pine Gondola in the summer to access many higher elevation trails if you want to save yourself the long uphill journey.
There is also a new golf course opening at Canyons Resort sometime in 2014, this will be yet another driver to the resort and the real estate market.
The 2013-2014 ski season officially kicks off at the Canyons on November 29th but if you have your epic pass and a full tank of gas you can head to Arapahoe Basin in Colorado and get in line for first chair when their season gets underway this coming Sunday October 13th.
Late Fall and early winter is one of the best times to buy a ski condo as you will realize rental revenue to offset expenses almost immediately and with interest rates still hovering near multi-decade lows and ski condos remaining one of the weaker segments of the local market here, now is the best time to buy a ski condo in Park City in many years, especially now that we are starting to see even this much maligned segment of the market starting to revive.
Some of the condominium projects at Canyons include The Silverado Lodge, The Sundial Lodge, The Waldorf Astoria Park City, The Lodge at Westgate and The Hyatt Escala Lodge.
Townhome options include the Park West era Red Pine and Hidden Creek townhomes as well as the newer developments of Juniper Landing, Fairway Springs and Vintage on The Strand.
There really is something for everyone here from the more affordable offerings at Red Pine and Hidden Creek to true upscale luxury at Vintage on The Strand, The Hyatt Escala Lodge and The Waldorf Astoria Park City. Most are ski-in/ski-out although Red Pine and The Silverado Lodge are two notable exceptions and Hidden Creek is iffy depending on location.
There are currently 61 condos and townhomes for sale at Canyons ranging from a 279 square foot studio at Silverado Lodge priced at $99,000 to a 4 bedroom/5 bath 2,650 square foot beauty at The Hyatt Escala Lodge priced at $1,990,000.
48 units have pended or closed in the last 6 months compared to 29 in the previous 6 months illustrating the strengthening of this market. There is still some great pricing available but the window appears to be closing on some of these deals. Call me for any special offers that may be currently offered.
Children of any full time residents will be enrolled in the Park City School System.
There are numerous dining and shopping opportunities within Canyons resort as well as 5 minutes away at Kimball Junction and 10 minutes in the other direction in the town of Park City.
