Travel bloogers meeting with AARP staff
You may know I was invited to the AARP event in Atlanta with about 10 of the top travel bloggers /web sites and some like me that cover baby boomers and retirement too. I hung out with these guys for three days and learned quite a bit about blogging and I will share a few things here. This was not a training session on blogging but my observations of seeing them in action. They were good!
1. Use Instagram. With their smart phones, they could take a picture with Instagram, improve it, and share in not only on Instagram but also twitter, Facebook, tumbler all at the same time. Really good when you are on the go. This gives you great pics on social media immediately.
2. Put your web site domain name on your photos. Apparently this can be done with Intragram or on your desktop with a photo editor. There may be other ways. But when people share your photos or they end up on Google images for anyone to grab, they and anyone who looks at them will have a little reminder where they came from and may be curious enough to give you a visit. See my photo above for example
3. Take advantage of the moment. These guys would write about what they were experiencing (that is why we were there). All of our stores were different because of this. (see my AARP blog post here) Look for opportunities all around you and don't forget to take those pics. Always be on the look out for content - it's all around you.
4. Personalize your story. This lets you share what you are experiencing in a natural way.
5. Pay others compliments and link to their websites - even your competitors. We can help each other out, there is plenty to go around.
6. Use pictures generously to help tell the story and make it interesting. Even a pic of a flier or sign tells the story it a great way.
So between being a new member of AR and meeting these great travel bloggers, I am fired up about improving my blogging skills. Hope some of these comments may help you too!
