I have to tell you, I love the real estate business! What a great way to meet great people, do a great service and make a great living! One of the most important things, if not the most important thing in our business is getting people to come to us. That's right prospecting: Real Estate 101, Right? We use websites, social networks, mailouts, flyers at places where we do business. We put our faces on billboards, magazines, magnets, business cards, trifolds and certainly not last nor least: refrigerators. I am a firm believer that all prospecting methods work...some just better than others.
Ok, What am I getting at? How about this: When is the last time you put your face in a neighborhood? When is the last time you actually walked up to a person that you have never heard from but you know you have sent them at least ten mailings in the last year? Do you really think, and do you have evidence that, this person knows you are the REALTOR® in their neighborhood? That you are the "go to" guy or gal when they have real estate to sell or buy? Are you really the first one they think of when Aunt Mary calls and says "Who do you know in the real estate business?" Why, more than likely, they have tossed your face and name in the trash at least nine times without a glance at what you had to say on that flyer, mailer, etc. But....How about if those folks you are trying to get to trust you with one of the most emotional, financial, stressful undertakings they are going to endeaver have actually seen your radiant face? Shaken your warm hand? Heard your strong voice? Felt your glowing smile? Then, my friend, you are the REALTOR® that shook the neighborhood! Why, folks will be talking as if they'd seen a UFO! They'd be saying: A real estate agent actually came by for more than to put a sign in the neighbor's yard? Actually talked to me about market conditons, answered questions about home values and was willing to make an appointment to come back by to talk about facilitating the sale of my home? Pinch me...I'm dreaming!
Sound hokey? I thought you might think that. Well, I did it! Scary thought at first, and it took some nerve building, but I took a loan officer with me for protection and we walked, knocked and talked to some very interesting people. We spent 2 hours in a neighborhood where I have done some mailing, sold a couple of homes and currently have one under contract as the selling agent and actually got one listing lead! Think about it; in this day of technology, Hangin' With Friends, Facebook, Twitter and Angry Birds, folks don't interact much face to face anymore. Even at professional functions, or family dinners at the restaurant, you can see everyone at a table with their faces in their phone, i-pad or Kindle. Come on! Face to face has become a new concept and it works! Try it and let's share experiences. I am going again this weekend. I'll be back with some cool stories! Look for me, I'll be looking for you too!
