I kept saying WHY! Desert Sun Home Inspection in Artesia New Mexico.

There are those homes that you want to pull your hair out when trying to figure out what the builder was or was not thinking when the  y did what they did. Then you wonder if the local JHA (Juristicion having authority) inspectors even looked at the home when it was being built or even after the completion of the home.

This 4,000 square foot home has been on the markets for about four months. I think it is in a very nice subdivision.

One problem I could see from the get go was there was a home owner maintenance issue with the exterior of the home. Usually this is an indicator of things to come with the interior of the home and the interior maintenance.

More later on that front.

Home has 4,020 SFT. Two story. Three levels. Built in 2006, C of O in 2006.

Sold and moved into in 2006.

So why in the world would this home be the way it is. There are safety issues with this home. Major safety issues.

Here is a look at the staircase going up the the second level.

No Hand rails in stairwell.

Here is a look at the staircase. There is no hand rail and there has never been a hand rail installed ever.

Bottom landing. No railings.

No Railing for the lower landing. Plus a little missing trim.

This next shot is of the top  of the stairs. This last step is the so called landing is poor planning. It is also a trip hazard till you get used to walking on the uneven way they built the home.

Steps not correct to second level.

Why was none of this not red flagged by the building department when they inspected this home?

There are a lot of things and questions I had when inspecting this home and the question remains. WHY?

Clint- indeed and from this viewer's standpoint, it makes me wonder what other work was done poorly that I cannot see.

Clint-good question why these things weren’t flagged. If I was a buyer I would be very careful buying this house.

Clint: Looks like the top of the stairs has a big "stumble" mini step. That doesn't look legal to me. You wonder what that is all about. And no handrails. Yes, I wonder what else is wrong with that house, and can see why it hasn't sold.

Not good when wanting to sell a home.

Clint: Outright blunders (no handrail on stairs?!) and lack of attention to detail (molding)...sure makes you wonder what else was missed!

Hi Hella.

from what i understand the "landing" at the top is legal. I think it's a very stupid thing to do, but still legal.

And yes this home has a bunch of other issues as well.

Thank you for the comment and have a great day out in Hawaii.

Hi Toni,

Yes they did.

They were the buyers of the home that had the messed up balcony...Railings ETC?  Remember that post.

Actually this home is a lot better than the other one.

Have a nice evening in Trinity.

Hello Anita,

A lot of other stuff as well. the local inspector should have caught most of it. But we all know the way they inspect homes.

Have a really nice evening in Warner Robins.

I am no building codes inspector Clint but even I would see that. Maybe they had a friend at the codes office that had his eyes closed on the final inspeciton.

Clint, Conrad brings up a good point about the width of the stairway. Hard to tell from the photo but appears narrow. You find the winners! Enjoy your day!

Hi Debbie,

I think the inspector had his eyes closed during the entire process. There re just too many things wrong and could not have been over looked if they actually inspected the home.

Have a good day in Clarksville.

Hi Rob,

This is the second home for these buyers. The first home was in the need for a lot of repairs and the seller was dragging their feet. So they moved on.

Have a very good day in Bristol today.

Hi Conrad,

They do. The minimum width is 36 Inches. These are exactly 36 Inches.

When I would build homes I would alays have a 48-60 inch staircase. Even ones going to a basement.

Have a great day in Webster today.

Hello Wayne.

They are O.K. small but still to code. The biggest issue is moving in and out furniture without dinging up the walls. This has already happened.

Have a great day in Fort Myers.
