Marana Community Food Bank - Statistics and Needs, Upcoming Events

I received a flier in the mail yesterday from the Marana Food Bank and I wanted to share some pertinent information for the people of Tucson, Marana, and Oro Valley.

The Marana Community Food Bank recently began distributing food at the Avra Valley Fire Station as well.  30 Families are coming to the new pick up location and word is spreading.

The Marana Community Food Bank has had an increase of nearly 60 new clients every month.

Currently 5106 households are served by the Marana Community Food Bank.

  • 17,924 clients lives are touched by the Marana Community Food Bank.
  • 25% of those clients are single mothers.
  • 34% are children.
  • 14% are seniors.

Here's the big news...the good news, and something I learned at the Empty Bowls Luncheon fundraiser a few months back.  The Marana Community Food Bank can convert every donated dollar into nearly $9 worth of food.  Imagine...if we all gave just $10...they could turn it into $90.  Marana Community Food Bank - Statistics and Needs, Upcoming Events

From July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013 - 1,383,094 pounds of food was distributed by the Marana Community Food Bank and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona

I recently contacted one of the Marana School District's elementary schools to see about Long Realty assisting over the holidays.  The need is huge...over 46 families need help at just one.  Local schools are putting donations together for a Thanksgiving Gift Card, and then of course, a Holiday Share program in December.

Cara-That is an impressive growth rate 1:9. It is good to know that food banks can help many who are less fortunate.
