A Northern Virginia Real Estate Agent’s Door Knocking Journal – Part 4

By

The great thing is that there are so many methods of meeting new people and networking with them – joining various clubs, community service activities, online networking, forming referral partnerships – the list goes on and on. Door knocking seems to suit me right now because it offers a way to instantaneously track my results and measure my progress. I’ve been out door knocking three times so far, and in the next few parts of this blog series, I’m going to start talking about each of those outings. From there, I’ll start updating all of you on my progress on a regular basis, in addition to offering my thoughts on door knocking in general and other prospecting strategies.

You’ll get to hear about the good, the bad, and the ugly from my door knocking experiences. What works, and what doesn’t? For instance, I think scripts and dialogues are a great part of the sales process, but I think they are more useful in providing me with a launch pad to jump from and take the plunge into the actual doing of the work. As with everything in the sales world that makes you feel uncomfortable, sometimes you just have to jump in and give yourself permission to fail. Otherwise, you’ll spend a long time “getting ready to get ready,” as they say.

Speaking of giving myself permission to fail, that’s a huge part of my philosophy when attempting anything new, and this includes real estate prospecting methods. I know that no matter how much I prepare, I’ll never become an expert face to face prospector until I go out there and do it, and fail to do it well for a while. Over time, this practice will greatly improve my prospecting skills in every area of my career.
