Postcard marketing is a powerful tool to get your message across. No doubt about it.
Maybe not everyone will agree with me, however as a real estate investor I've proven that a postcard is effective in reaching out to homeowners. This can be quite tedious, time consuming and can be complicated to some at first. But once you know the right approach you will find it to be easy. You have to do your part to make it work. And marketing using direct mail still performed better than digital marketing. The response rate of 1.1 to 1.4 percent versus 0.03% for e-mail, internet display ads at 0.04 percent and 0.22 percent for paid search according to Harvard Business Review simply cannot be ignored. There are certain steps that you'll need to master in postcard marketing.
1. Know your target market. This is the first element to a marketing strategy. Define who they are and aim your postcard marketing towards this specific group. You need to map out your audience demographic and from there you can create your mailing list. There are several routes where you can get your mailing list an example is the MLS. You will need to send these postcards to target a certain group that will generate the result that you are aiming.
2. Size of the postcard. You want your postcard to not too small and not so big. It has to be something that is just right and large enough for your message. A two-sided postcard will give you a better response rate. You will also need to choose either white or yellow. Yellow is a color that tends to grab the attention. And of course choose something that will be easy in the pocket.
3. Your design and message. Make your postcard compelling to raise an immediate attention. The reader shouldn't have a second thought. Make it personal and professional at the same time. Whatever message that you want to convey should be something that is engaging to your prospective market. With all the competition around you want to design it in such a way that you will arouse attention. This is your time to stamp your postcards with your personal creativity. This is your chance to integrate strategy and branding. This should be visible in your logo and color scheme of your design.
4. Proof reading is a must. You want the receiver to think that you have carefully chosen your words for their benefit. Correct grammar and spelling should be considered. And I mean 100 percent correct. You do not want to sound like a salesman who memorize his dialogue. Think of quality and value.
5. Response time and immediate follow up. Give the homeowners the chance to respond don't expect them to call you right there and then. In other words don't apply pressure. Wait. Once your phone started ringing there's no stopping and you can't answer them all at once. You will get voicemails for sure so don't forget to give them a call the very day that they call you.
Postcards rule! It's powerful. Don't even think for a minute. Do it and leverage it. Remember to make your message effective. And think of the reason why you're doing it in the first place. To help your target market makes their life easier and better. And mean it. That is the best possible way to get your message across. Do it now as in right now and let me know what you think.
