Foresee Senior Resource Wise Owl Series

"This is where I'll spend my final years"
|
I hear this often when speaking with members of my community.
Aging in place is one of your choices and there are ways to make this a great option in many cases. Oh, and it's not just for "seniors" so please keep reading. |
When I say aging in place, I'm talking about a person living in their own home as they continue life's journey. Trust me, you don't have to be a senior or even a Baby Boomer to age in place. Life may dictate you need services from others and support; but it can be in your home and based on your needs as they change over time.
There's even more great news - if you start your plan now, maintaining your independence becomes more manageable. Your quality of life should be the focus of your plan so review it and make updates as needed; don't let dust gather.
Our bodies change as do our needs because of age, injury or other capability factors. This short list is a good start to help with your plan, but you'll need to add your own considerations:
- Physical strength
- Vision
- Balance / stability
- Immune system
- Hearing
- Cognitive
So ask yourself how you'll be mobile in and around your home. Think about getting to friend's homes, shopping and medical care. Your activities of daily living, frequently referred to as "ADL" need to be met.
When you take the time to plan, you ease the burden on your family by determining where and how you'll live.
Many people I work with on an ongoing basis are looking to "trade-in" their large home for something more manageable. Some others remodel their existing home and fine that works best for them.
Why not be comfortable in your own home if that's the best choice for you? Similarly, if you'd prefer or need to live with relatives or a care facility and it's the best choice - wouldn't you take it?
You have a choice, where do you want to spend your home life? How should it be set up? How will you get your health care? What other help is right for you?
Consult trusted advisers for legal, financial, medical and real estate needs, after all, it is your plan and your life.
As always, let's foresee the possibilities . . . and get results!
