Video is Increasingly Important in the Home Search

Services for Real Estate Pros

More home shoppers are searching for listings and for agents online, and specifically, watching videos to help them make their decisions.

The Digital House Hunt study, a joint report between NAR Research and Google, shows an opportunity for Realtors to market to home shoppers and stand out from the competition.

  • New home buyers are placing a greater emphasis on videos that showcase homes and communities.
  • 86% of home shoppers are watching videos to find out more about specific places to live.
  • 70% of home buyers are touring the inside of homes via video.
  • Finding an agent and agent related searches on YouTube grew 46% year-over-year.
  • Home buyers who purchased previously owned homes are more likely to bring their online research offline by walking through or driving by a home they viewed online.

According to NAR, 73% of sellers say they would list their home for sale with a Realtor that would use video to market their home yet less than 3% of REALTORS® {nationally} currently use video in their real estate business. This HUGE gap creates an opportunity to stand out from the competition.

Hi Mary,

I agree video, when done correctly, can be a great selling tool.

Hi there. I agree wholeheartedly! Videos are where it's at - and great home videos are tough to do without the right equipment.

Hi Susan ~ I think that touring the inside of a home by video is a huge marketing advantage!  I can see why video has become an important tool for home searches.

Agree! Video makes a potential homebuyer feel like they're actually touring the home, which can save time for both the agent and the buyer. That's why you need professional, HD video with smooth corners and transitions -- because a bad video is just as damaging as bad photos.

Video, make it like air, water, food, love. It's that important to have in your marketing mix.

Definitely a good tool to use. Helps if you also add in community info so the buyer has more of a sense of the neighborhood/community.

Thank you so much Patricia, that's very kind of you to say! It's has been a while since I've been on ActiveRain! Ok, more than just a little while. Business really took off and so blog posting fell on the back burner, but I've really missed everyone in the ActiveRain community,  and am going to start sharing again. Looking forward to more of your posts as well!!
