Here we are again approaching the end of Daylight Savings Time. Don’t forget – Next Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00am you need to TURN BACK your clocks ONE HOUR.
I wonder if those who proposed and approved Daylight Savings Time realized what a hassle could result from this ‘turning the clocks back-and-forth’. Also often wondered why they just didn’t turn the clocks back … and leave them that way.
Since it occurs on a Sunday morning, it does cause many people to either totally miss their church services or at the very least show up late. What about people that have to catch airplane flights … or trains … or buses. Hmmm, wonder how many people get left behind because they either overslept or never realized the date … thus their clocks never got set properly, until ‘TOO LATE’.
Nowadays it is less likely to be forgotten as it gets heralded across our daily newspapers; and the TV News stations proclaim it so far ahead of time and every day to follow that by the time the day comes to do it, we are so tired of hearing about it that we’re just glad to do it and get it over with.
However, if you are inclined to forget make yourself a reminder … because how many people really stay up or set their alarms to get up and do it; and it is when we get up that Sunday morning that we tend forget. You could even make this a fun project for your kids. Have them draw a picture … maybe depicting a clock with special notation showing the changing of the hour … and there are many other things they could do to serve as a reminder. Hang it on the bathroom mirror … the refrigerator door … or even on the coffee maker. I bet they would have a ball doing it, not to mention they would feel good about themselves knowing that it is because of their effort that the clocks ‘got turned back’!
So in closing, remember – ‘Next week at this time, it will not be this time … it will actually be an hour ago!’
PS – In addition, this is the perfect time to change all the batteries in smoke alarms, non-electric clocks … and flashlights too, while you’re at it.
