What Your Front Door Says about You

Your front door can be considered a great opportunity for personal expression, not to mention the ultimate way to grab the attention of everyone in the neighborhood and add instant curb appeal. The main entrance to any home can reveal much about the house and its occupants, so make the most of it and have fun!

Blue doors are believed to create calm and peace for your home…in turn, bringing those feelings to your guest and family who enter through and into your home. Additionally, blue is thought to bring lots of positive energy into a space.

Yellow is a color that evokes mental clarity, perception, understanding, wisdom, confidence, curiosity, humor and merriment.

Green is always a great choice for the front door since it’s a color that is said to represent balance, peace, compassion, growth, renewal, and harmony.

Purple is a pretty popular color for front doors. It’s symbolizes energy and is thought to invite many opportunities into your home. Some folks even believe you can improve your opportunities…or whatever aspect of your life that relates to the doors direction, or the direction it faces, simply by painting your front door purple. Whether you’re hoping for a better career or better health, some say purple will help.

In Feng Shui, a Red front door means “welcome.” Interestingly, in early American tradition, it meant the very same thing. In fact, if a home had a red front door, tired travelers who might be traveling by horse and buggy would know the home was a place where they would be welcomed to stop and spend the night or rest. In Scotland, homeowners paint their front door red to signify they have paid off their mortgage.

Laurel, what a fun and interesting post.  I love a good colored front door, now I know more about what that color means.

Laurel, the front door is what invites folks in!  It does set the stage for the first impression of the buyers!

Laural,

This is so true. The Front Door tells a story. Especcially if it needs paint and is full of spider webs. I often then determine what's inside.

Laurel,

I've always believed a good looking front door is extemely important when selling a home, it's that first impression buyers make.

Hi Laurel - Interesting.  We have two "front" doors.  One opens to our formal entry and the other opens right into our family room.  To encourage people to use the main entry, we painted that door red, and it works.  Of course neighbors who know us well usually use the family room door, which is brown (our good neighbors know they ar ewelcome even though that door isn't red).  We pretty much know if whoever is at the door is a stranger or neighbor by which door they come to.

Laurel, what a fun post with interesting information. Dallas homes tend to have natural wood colored doors or iron doors finished in bronze or black.

Laurel, I really like looking at well presented and colorful front doors.  Since I have a red front door I'm really liking your red door above.
