There's No Place Like Home Contest
Entry from Atlanta GA
What can I say? It's a fact: there is no place like home. Of course, defining “home” is important. Want a home for yourself in the Atlanta Metro area? Check out Atlanta Homes Buckhead Midtown Westside. At ODAT Realty, we are ready, waiting and able to assist you in that search!
It is so true that there is no place like “home”. For me, the definition of home is one's family unit. A family unit may be of any size – just you or you and your pet(s) or you and spouse or you and children. Home defined for me doesn't depend on size or type or physical location. The place could be a “house” or “condo” or “farm” or an other place.
Our neighborhood was always called “Northwest Atlanta” until the word “Buckhead” came to mean higher home prices. Then the Buckhead neighborhood expanded to include the whole Northwest area of Atlanta. Oh, well, that's real estate, isn't it?
Wait – that's my work! Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty survives by selling homes and property management services in Atlanta!! Hmmm – maybe the name expansion is a good thing for earnings …
To define the topic, my home is my husband and our grown children - Rachel, Abe, Anna, Yesenia and Brenda - and their families. The dwelling embraces my “home” like the turtle's shell contains the turtle. Our house sits nestled in trees inside the Atlanta city limits. I love that our children roamed and explored in our yard as they grew up. Now their children roam in the yard and play in the woodland garden at the back.
We renovated the 1941 house when we moved in twenty years ago. The materials from rooms at the back of the house provided the walls of the two playhouses hidden in the trees at back.
Two? Yes, and designed by the children themselves. One was the boys' and one the girls'. Separate quarters in that pre-adolescent period seemed important to them. The playhouses excitingly connect to one another by a mountain gorge-style rope-and-slat swinging bridge between them! Built by them as junior apprentices to our wonderful carpenter, Lee, they mixed the concrete for the footings and experienced the sweat of building in Atlanta in the summer. Now their children play in there.
My own joys at our house? I could say “Let me count the ways ...” (inspired by the Bard, of course) but to focus on one aspect? OK, got it!
What I love about where I live is the feeling of peace and quiet from my garden. I love looking out the windows and seeing the various aspects of the garden. I love seeing a rose bloom on a forty year old cutting from my grandmother's rose bush. I love seeing the birds on the bird feeder next to the fig tree. I love the power of the iris as they show their triumphant blooms.
I love that the garden changes all year long. I love the startling appearance of the star magnolia blossoms in the middle of winter. I love the dramatic colors of the flowers gracing the limbs of Crepe Myrtles on those hot, humid days of summer. I love that the perennial flowers bloom and then disappear only to return again the next year.
Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty allows me to help others find their special place to enjoy their lives. We look forward to hearing from you when we may assist in your search.
Have a happy day -
