I have heard it time and time again. "Google+ is so complicated and Facebook is so easy; that's why I don't use it," or "Google+ is just trying to steal market share from facebook because they saw how facebook was dominating and growing!"
While some of these might be true, there are several reasons Why Google+ Matters, in fact, it matters so much that I reccomend you have both a Facebook page and a Google+ page. So Here's a few reasons why Google+ matters:
- Hummingbirds. Not the super fast & fidgity little birds, but Google's latest update has quietly begun moving Google in a new direction as far as how searching is done. Several years ago there was a search engine on the net called "Ask Jeeves," and it was built so that you could ask actual questions instead of just typing in the keywords of your search, so instead of searching for "Kansas City Real Estate for sale," you could would type in "Where do I find homes to buy in Kansas City." It didn't really work out for AskJeeves, but it will work out for Google because they are moving to a platform that is much more voice command driven. Which brings us to...
- Let's Get Mobile. Another step that google is taking that when they showed off what they had been working on when they released hummingbird, they didn't show it on a desktop or on a laptop computer; they showed it off on a mobile browsing device. Your cellphone and tablet are now the most important devices to Google. They want you to find search results based on your current physical location, social media cues (IE - your friends facebook pages, twitter accounts, and google+ pages), and your previous searches.
- Google Owns It All. The #1 and #2 most used search engines on the internet are actually Google and YouTube (yes, that Youtube,) and they are both owned by google. So what does that mean when you're trying to get your website on the first page of google rankings? It means that Google likes to show their own stuff first, so youtube videos might show up, and Google authorship will help, and having a Google+ profile (or Google+ places for business) and a Google Maps location will help you rank higher.
- It's the Business End. While Facebook may have the market cornered on the social side of social media, Google+ has decided to work from the business side and both are scrambling to cover up the market in the middle. Facebook has done work to make it's pages better for businesses to us with some effect, while Google has been working to attract people to it's network. Think of Google+ as a great combination of Linkedin and Facebook with the added powers of mobile marketing, maps, and it's all connected!
These are just four simple reasons Why Google+ Matters. You can check ours out here! Have a great day and get out there and do great things because you're a rockstar!
