A fun event happening tonight in Denver is a free screening of the new horror movie, The Conjuring, in the performing arts center of DU.  The theater can accommodate 500 people so show up early to get a good seat.  You are encouraged to bring your own snacks.  The movie will begin at 8:00pm and will be the only scary movie night this Halloween.  The Conjuring is a horror thriller film that came out in mid July this year.  Directed by James Wan and starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the movie follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.  The Conjuring was rated R, not for blood, gore and violence, but for “sheer white knuckled terror”.  At early screenings of the film a priest was invited to hand out Holy Water before the showing in an attempt to ratchet up the dread.  It is widely accepted among critics as a breath of fresh air to the horror genre, taking another haunted house story and staging it in a classic way to bring fresh scares.  The set pieces  are supposed to contain a lot of old school scares and provide an exciting atmosphere for movie watchers.  I haven’t seen the film personally but I think I can wait until I can rent it in my own home.
