I have to admit, as the Social Media Director for the Property Management Software company Rentec Direct I've focused more of my time and money on Faceboook rather than on Google+. After reading various blogs yesterday regarding the usefulness of both for search engine optimization (SEO). I've decided to consolidate the information I've read and am going to compare the two social networks against each other so I can first, decide which of these features I even use and second, weigh the pros and the cons of the features i do use for business purposes.
pros
1. Can send private messages to friends
cons
1. facebook reaches less than 10% of your followers
2. facebook only allows you to have 5,000 friends before you must create a fan page
2. facebook penalizes you when you try to add a person you don't know by not allowing you to add friends for a while
Google+
pros
1. Allows group chat with up to 10 people via "Hangouts"
2. You can add as many people as you want
3. Research shows, Google favors users that operate from their social platform over others (makes sense)
4. Every time a user +1's your content it is immediately recrawled and updated which provides you benefit quickly
2. Can leave video message
3. Easy to share info with specific connections
4. Allow specific friends to see data by putting different groups in different circles
cons
1. No help feature
According to my lists of pros and cons it looks like I should focus a bit more time on building my social networks on Google+! I think they are both great platforms for Social Media and facebook does still have a bigger following. I won't be walking away from either of these networks anytime soon. What about you, do you have a favorite social network?
