Why I love My Home

Home Builder with Sitterle Homes

Liz Wallace of Century 21 Sherlock Homes has created a challenge for us participating in Active Rain to tell folks why we love our home.

Before Bob and I were married we stopped in a model home to kill some time while waiting for some friends of us to arrive home. The lady spoke with us and told us, this neighborhood was not for us. We were “Grand Lakes” kind of people. I thought whatever that means. We walked around and asked her where “Grand Lakes” was. She told us how to get there. Afterwards when we were heading back to my house I said let’s take a look at Grand Lakes. It was nothing but dirt as far as you could see big flat red dirt. The elementary school was being finished up. I said ha that will not be for us. God was laughing at us.

Fast forward 18 months later we have been looking for homes for 9 months now. We have killed a couple of deals for being lied and sales consultants being rude. So, I go into this trailer as the models were not finished and who do I see; but the lady who told us we were buying in Grand Lakes.

She gave us a packet and told us the model would be finished next week. Bob was so mad at the builder (old sales consultant lied on various issues) he would not go in. As soon as I walked into the home I knew it was the one. I finally convinced Bob to go in, he too said this is it. I had not told him I felt the same way. We had not both totally agreed on a floor plan until then.

Fast forward 12 months yes folks 12 long months later and we were finally moving in it was our 1st Anniversary. It was probably the best way to celebrate our 1st anniversary. Over the years we have shared many life experiences and good times in that home. We have raised my children in the home. Our home means family and friends. We spend a lot of time with both there. We just love spending time in the family room and our back patio where we do straight chilling with family and friends.

We too have shared some sorrows too as we lost my mom in that home, but as that by-product we have lived our lives there and they have been good ones and we hope for many more to come. I also love to decorate my home for the Holidays be it Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July you get the idea all of them.

We will probably downsize as we no longer need 4200 sq. feet but are not quite ready to do that just yet sometime in the next few years but this place will always have a special place in my heart.

Isn't it odd how we sometimes have this sense of "knowing" a house is our's or not!  I've had that experience twice in my life.  And, like you, both times it came after quite the journey!

It is always a good idea to listen to that sixth sense when you hear it. We all have it but in this modern world, many ignore that little voice in their head.

Yolanda, great post on finding the right house and in Grand Lakes. I'm glad you've created many memories there and you've truly made it a home. Thanks for sharing today.

What I want to know was that salesperson insulting you.  Did she think you didn't belong there.  Well clearly you did.  Thanks so much for posting to the contest.

No quite the contrary the Sales Person new that Grand Lakes would be a much better neighborhood than the one we originally met her at. She was a wonderful new home sales constultant now she is an artist.
