The Encinitas Civic Center Art Gallery

Glass art by glassblower Lea de Wit in EncinitasThe Encinitas Civic Center is a hub of many activities that support the management and operations of the town. City Council Chambers are there, as are a number of building departments, just up the hill from the downtown area near the train station.

A charming feature of the civic center is the Art Gallery, in the Encinitas City Hall. I had the pleasure of viewing this gallery for the first time the other day where artist/glassblower Lea de Wit was featured.

Lea’s handcrafted glass art is magnificent, and a true testimony to her talent and creativity as an artist, and a reflection of her excellent training in Italy under glassblowing masters, Elio Quarisa and Davide Salvadore, as well as with renowned glass sculpture artist Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen. It is no surprise that the juried selection process resulted in this solo show for de Wit. Don’t miss it, whether you are a glass collector or not.

De Wit’s works are in galleries and private collections nationally. To view more spectacular photos of her glassblowing, visit her website Lucky Stripe.

Enjoy the show (with music)

Gorgeous glasswork. I was just thinking of famed Venice glasswork when I red that the artist, Lea De Wit was trained by Elio Quarisa and Davide Salvadore. That explains a lot. This is art at its best. It takes your breath away. I am sure they don't give them away!

Lloyd - so true. Her work is stunning, and my photography does NOT do it justice. She also displayed a number of incredible bowls and other pieces. Pricing was as one would expect for someone this accomplished. Thanks for stopping by.

Jeff,

I noticed you write about art on a few occasions....I guess thats one of your loves? Does this mean you do portraits?:) I tried the stain glass thing once.

Jeff, I always found glass blowing fascinating.  My husband and I visited Venice, Italy a couple of years back and the glass there is just spectacular!

Irina - me too. We were in Murano some years ago and visited several of the glass blowing factories - and, of course, brought a couple of pieces home. Truly amazing what glass blowers can do.

Jeff, interesting that the City Council Chambers is located in the Civic Center along with other non City Government uses, like a Art Gallery, and glass blowing. I would suspect that Lea’s handcrafted glass business can really benefit from being in the same building as the City Council, because they are assured of never running out of HOT AIR for their glass blowing operation.

George - Well I am ROTFLMAO. You kill me. But there is more than a grain of truth there. But the glass blowing itself is NOT there, but if it were....
