Did you ever visit a place and then want to return soon. Did you ever consider what it would be like to move there to live?
We visited Beaufort SC this week and fell in love with it. The October weather was great as we walked along the Waterfront Park in Beaufort on the Beaufort River. Having lunch and dinner on Bay Street enjoying the fresh Fall weather full of sunshine to go with our wine and crab cakes! Walking among the shops off Baby Street was a pleasure. Taking the carriage ride though Beaufort's Historical District to see the huge well preserved homes of the past was inspiring.
Then the day trips to see the historic Lighthouse of Hunting Island along the wide flat beaches that reminded me of Daytona. Stopping at seafood restaurants for fresh shrimp and oysters is something I do not do everyday. You feel like it is some kind of magical tour you wish would not end so soon. Kind of like when you are on a 10 day cruse and day 8 is coming up.
Then you return home but the place stays with you. You look at the great photos and see that it was real. You start thinking when can we return. You see on a web site where there is a festival at the Waterfront Park next July and you start thinking about a return visit and just wonder if it will be as nice next time you visit as it was this time.
Then you actually start thinking about what it would be like to live there, in Beaufort or one of the Sea Islands. Just move and take on a more relaxed lifestyle away from the traffic. Eat seafood whenever you want. Maybe get a home looking over the Beaufort River or maybe a marsh view. Somewhere you can take day trips to new and exciting places. Would it be as fun as the time you visited?
Then you call around and see what is available. Are there retirement homes or retirement communities in the area? You find out every community seems to fill the bill, age qualified or not. Resort living is what it is all about. You learn there are entire Islands of residential communities with clubhouses and golf courses, activities, waterfront vistas, marshes and walk-able neighborhoods.
You ask yourself what is keeping you there in the metro suburbs. You are retired and don't have to drive to the job everyday like you did for years. Why not make a change. Why not try something different. Something exciting and enjoyable. Surely others are thinking the same thing. They will be moving there also and will become your friends.
Beaufort SC sounds like the place.
