The Internet Doesn't Deliver Houses

This is one of the best Twitter posts I've read in a long time.

"Why do people go to lendingtree and then get all weird & cranky when a realtor contacts them? Hello? The internet doesn't deliver houses."

I have no idea what Connie does in Minneapolis, but I do know one thing for certain. There's something in the water in Minnesota, because there seem to be a lot of funny people in the Land of 10000 Lakes.

This is a classic.

Cracks me up, if they don't want to be contacted why bother. I too think people just want the information and not want someone in their face all the time. Some agents like to call and call and they end up alienating themselves from the consumer.

Calls I have received over the past 23 years from consumers that won't give info. are usually not 100% committed at that time. It takes a good agent to make the consumer like and trust you before they even meet you.

What a hoot!

I have an IDX site that will e-mail me when users click on the "I want more information" button.  Sometimes, I'll be sitting at my computer and, all of a sudden, tens of e-mails will come in from the same e-mail address. I know they're just clicking away thinking they'll get some kind of automated response with "more information."

When I write back that "I'm a real person receiving these e-mails.  I'd love to help." they, all of a sudden, STOP clicking on the "I want more information" button. Funny how people relate to their searches on the Internet.  They must think that it's run by the "little people" from Ireland.

Happy St. Pat's Day to all....

Well, Active rain is finally back up. Twitter is fun, but I missed that comment. Actually I get taken to a lot of good links over there and it is growing. Of course the internet doesn't sell houses, people do.

Jeff,

Don't laugh but when I worked for another Real Estate company I was in their Costco/ Lending Tree program. I was given leads and got the same response once and the other problem was fake email addresses and phone numbers...don't get it...I guess they just want info and not a real lead.

Why do they sign up if they don't want to hear from us?  I guess they do think houses grow on Lending trees.

I imagine they're not reading the fine print. It still amazes me that people sign up for things on the internet, then are surprised when they get spam. I told my mother that I had hotmail accounts that I used when I signed up for different online services, until I'm sure I won't get spam. She just looked at me like a confused puppy.

Maybe they think the next update to the internet will add delivery of keys and a home inspection to it.  I wonder when they think the upgrade for contracts to write themselves and do the negotiating is soon in the works also.

Hi Jeff.... I would say Connie has hit the nail on the Head and called a spade a spade...if consumers could get their house online we'd have a very different life. We all thought and worried that the Internet would do away with our services, it turns out the consumer wants our Service. I would say Connie is a Realtor, and a bright Lady with her short and to the point statement...well done Connie where ever you are!!

Cheers, have a great day!

EONS ago, I worked with House Values and found the same thing true. People really don't want to talk to a Realtor 'til they think they're ready (which may not be for a year or two or more after they fill out some online form). The small print will say that "someone will call" but most consumers never see it. Truth is, that part is barely supposed to be seen....

It's strange, though, how forms materialize.  I've seen where you think you are getting directions off mapquest, and the next thing you know, it's asking if you would like to get the value of a house.  Well, you might have a curious mind, fill out a small form and get the value of the house and directions.  Meanwhile, you have created a form that is given to a real estate agent, but you weren't really interested in buying or selling a house.

And then there are always those "Win a free Prada Bag" or "win a new IPhone" if you just answer a few questions.  Have you ever noticed that those forms always have a question at the end that asks if you are interested in buying a house (maybe not for 12-18 months down the road). Then guess what, you are a form lead for someone to call.

Jeff,

For the first time in a long time on a post, I've read every single comment.  I like Missy Caulk's the best.  (I really stopped by to thank you for RES.  I'm using it as a lender to touch clients and family in an unexpected way with a RES of their grandchildren, or other topic when they send me photos.  One client, who works in nuclear medicine, just visited China, and sent me a link to his Snapfish album.  He's getting a RES today.  Fantastic tool!)
