Craigslist Update on HTML and Links

There have been a lot of questions coming to IMSD and ActiveRain about the updates Craigslist has made in regards to HTML and external links. To help both communities, IMSD instructor Chad Hyams addressed this in the first few minutes of a IMSD bonus call How to Holiday Proof Your Business.

Watch this 1 minute clip to learn what you need to be doing to keep up with Craigslist

I was definitely thrown for a loop on this change. I love html codes there clean and they look great. But like real estate you need to make a change. It took me a few hours but I figured out what I needed to do. I wish all my real estate changes where that quick.

Actually it will be nice to see CL get back to what it is supposed to be for and it's not 100 ads for the same property posted within 10 minutes.

This information is very useful. Craigslist is widely used in our office, especially by listing agents. It's also a great way to increase exposure for a property!

Somehow the volume isn't working on this for me-I'll try listening at the office, I'm curious to hear the tips.

Now it is rolling across the country that you can't even type in the hyperlink as the link goes cold.

1) You can continue to complain

2)Start creating your ads with COPY AND PASTE THIS LINK FOR THE MOST POWERFUL SEARCH TOOL FOR YOUR NEXT HOME - and then put the hyperlink under that!

Our suggestion - skip step 1 and get to work!

Craigs list is easy to use and keeps getting better. I have only had a few problems with it in the past and figured out a solution quickly.

UGH, we all hate change, but those that adapt will be successful while those that don't will not. I caught the change to the images and now am caught up on the change to links. Consumers won't like the cut-and-paste option. They'll complain and CL will make another change.

In the meantime, I agree IMSD rocks!!!  Keep up the good work.

BTW, the "<em>" and "</em>" HTML tags work to change the font color to highlight the link for consumers to copy/paste.  See this CL ad where I've highlighted the link  We'll have to see how long this HTML tag survives in CL.

Thanks Chad. I am consistently surprised how vehemently people complain about free services when they change for a better user experience, i.e. Facebook, Craigslist.

Craigslist keep the changes coming, less competition for those who fail to adapt and choose to react. In the meantime, I'll keep logging into the webinars.

My Craigslist ads are simple to the point of being boring. They only give the facts and details about the property…along with photos. Oh…wait…that is what I want potential buyers to know. Guess I don’t need to worry about the changes.
