Fridge Snoopers May Be on to Something....

My friend Debbie Reynolds wrote a cute blog "The Refrigerator Isn't Part of the Sale, Why Are You Looking in It?"   Mostly regarding the nosiness of some people who need to stick their face in the fridge, which may not even be staying with the house. I commenced with my long-winded blog-like comment of how meticulous I am with my own refrigerator then it hit me, its representative of how I maintain everything.  The fridge is where you provide for your family - food, drinks, lunch, entertainment, medicines, and health thoughts (or not).

Once a week I do a fridge dump.  I go through with a trash can, recycle bin, and a mop bucket to throw out bad food, leftovers, remove food from the food rotter produce keeper, etc.  Then I remove all the other items and proceeded to wipe down bottles, and wipe out the shelves.  I never use chemicals, only toxic free things like Meyers or H (Shaklee).  I carefully put everything back into categories or by shape, whatever seems to work.  My family greatly appreciates the cleanliness and the organization which makes their lives easier.  Granted, it takes time, it adds value to our daily living.

That's exactly how I keep my house too, well not as well maintained but for the most part, clean and organized. I keep my warranty books and extra parts in boxes, labeled.  I sweep and dust my wood floors weekly.  When my dog has an accident I disinfect it immediately with an enzyme non-toxic cleaner. When something breaks, we fix it. When I ding a wall moving furniture I repair it.  I have all my house paints recorded by saving the paint card and a printed label stuck on it so I know brand and product description.

While this all seems so over-kill (I sensed your thoughts while writing this) it also means my house in in tip top condition and when it came time to sell, nothing was on the inspection report that needed attention.  Granted there were a few improvement suggestions or code changes, we kept the house in tip-top condition so there was nothing to negotiate.  It also left a very favorable impression with the Appraiser as well.

So question, is the Fridge Snooper a nosy Buyer or investigating the condition of the home, even if they aren't keeping the fridge?

Hi Cathy, first of all thank you for showing my property yesterday evening in Austin, I was out of the city most of the day going crazy with a rental property.... and I would have loved to have met you. Let me know if your clients need any additional information.

I like your blog and i wish all homeowners would fix repairs and keep their homes in good condition so when we list them they'll sell quickly.

Have a beautiful day Cathy....

Cathy, It could very well be both.  I feel how people live represents their attention and care to things and of things. When I see a clean and organized home my sense is that the owners take care of everything with the same attention to detail.

Cathy I have a feeling it's probably a bit of both.  Somehow some folks just think it's ok to open everything.

Cathy, I think it is a good indication of how they maintain their home.  Great point!
