Pet Friendly Condos in Winnetka, Wilmette & the North Shore

Real Estate Agent with Baird & Warner Real Estate

Animal lovers are often frustrated in their search for a new condo in Winnetka and other North Shore suburbs. I have had many buyer clients horrified to discover that their favorite condo complex won't allow man's best friend in the door. Pet Friendly Condos in Winnetka & the North Shore

As a dog lover myself, I don't understand why all buildings don't just allow the creatures in their realm. As a pragmatist, I know that some people don't like them, and others have severe allergies and can't like them even if they wanted. My daughter's downtown rental solved the problem by allowing 3 floors of animals, and then 3 floors sans animals and so on for 38 floors.  Seemed to work out for everyone.

Here in the 'burbs, though, it's all or none. Some condo associations are so restrictive that they won't allow even fish or birds.  I mean, who cares if a bird tweets or a fish gurgles? But those are the rules.

Whether you couldn't live without your pets, or you can't stand them, here's a guide for your lifestyle:

**Be sure to check with your real estate agent about specifics - some buildings allow cats and dogs, some cats only, some have weight and number restrictions.

This is a great guide for your area. There are so many subdivisions that don't take pets, partial pets, that's its really confusing.  Alot of time is spent looking & searching for dog owners that end in disappointment.

HI Lyn - that's why I have a little disclaimer at the end.  Even if they do take pets, there could be strings attached.

Margaret-The restrictions on pets in condos is just one on the trade offs one has to consider. The alternating floor arrangement seems great for high rise buildings.

A friend of mine hates dogs because when he was 10-years old a dog stole his sandwich. He's in his sixties now and still hates them. If he were on a condo association board I'm sure he would ban dogs.
