This is not a political post and I am not talking bad about our President. Regardless of what my political affliations, I am just sharing some of the high level points where it will affect my 2013 and 2014 income taxes as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare.
My husband and I attended a seminar about Obamacare and its impact last night. Prior to that, we met with our tax accountant to go through our 2013 taxes and see how it would look like on our returns. So, the following I mentioned is only how it affects me personally:
We make a great income. We are on the higher level tax bracket (fortunately and unfortunately).
- We will be hit with phase out personal exemptions
- We will also be hit with a phase out itemized deductions
- We will pay for a High Income Medicare tax that we've never paid before
At Obamacare, the information that was shared really went over my head but what little I got, this is how some will also affect my family and I:
- We don't qualify for premium assistance credit (not surprising and I didn't expect to)
- We *may be hit with additional medicare tax on unearned income which our "net investment income" on gross rents" (but most likely we could be considered an Active landlord, so it could be exempted)
- Increased 3rd Quarter 2014 estimated tax payment by 173.5%!!!
How some Obamacare stuff affects other businesses:
- Individual mandate
- Corporate mandate
- Small employer health insurance tax credit where it affects 30 or more full time workers
My brain just stopped accepting information from that point. It went bla, bla, bla. If you were with me, you saw blood coming out of my ears.
I've always been proud to live in America. I truly am. I'm also grateful to be here. But it seems so socialist and not encouraging entreprenuerialship.
Honestly, I felt bummed but what does a High-C do? I just keep on keeping on.
