What Are You Focused On?

Are you focused?  

A better question may be: What are you focused on?  

Are you focused on:
-  achieving your goals?
-  watching your favorite TV show every week?
-  just enjoying your life?
-  helping others?  

There's no judgment being made here. Whatever you are focused on will happen.   'Lack of focus' can be dangerous.  Even if you aren't focused on something, change that and decide what it is you want to focus on.  

Here's an idea that I recently heard about and it came from a story about Mr. Rockefeller and Mr. Schwab over 50 years ago.  Mr. Schwab had an idea for Mr. Rockefeller and all he asked for in return was to be paid what Mr. Rockefeller thought the idea was worth.    The idea paid Mr. Schwab $25,000!!! Not bad for back then.   What was the idea?  "FOCUS 10" Strategy!   The gist of the idea was before leaving the office or falling asleep at night, write down 10 things that you had to accomplish before the next day was over.   Some items may be repeated every business day, like calling 3 of your past clients, while other items may be more of a one-time task.   Then prioritize them from 1 to 10.  #1 being the most important and to be completed first.  Don't work on #2 until #1 is completed.  It's that simple!   If you don't have 10 things to accomplish on a daily basis, then make it 5 or whatever number works for you.  But make a list and start doing it.  

You know what?  It's so simple, yet it can be very hard too.  

It's so easy to get distracted. But then go back to reviewing what your goals are in life.  

In the beginning, I didn't complete my list every day.  Then I would look back at my day and figure out what I did with my time.   Sometimes, it was the things that I procrastinated on and ended up not doing.  Other times I had to "put out a fire". 

We've all done it.  But as time goes on and you get into the habit of doing it, it gets easier.  And then you start to accomplish more in your personal and professional life, because you're focusing on the most important things that need to be done in your life.   What prospecting, marketing and self-improvement activities do you need to complete every day for you to achieve your goals?  

Please don't go through your life 'out of focus'.  Whatever it is you want out of life, go after it.  If you're happy with the way your life is now, then stay on that path.  If you want more, then figure out what you need to do to get there and take it a step at a time.  

Remember, asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness, but a sign of courage to take the next step to achieving your dreams.

Dan, nicely said.  Focus vs Distraction or its corrolary Productive vs Busy..  Many times I found myself extremely busy.. Whoa I'm swamped with work I say, but if the task doesn't line up with the ultimate goal -- Sales..  Then I'm just running to stand still.  Busy and Out of Focus..
