30 Days to a better ME

I recently ran across an article entitled 30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself  written by Marc Chernoff on his blog http://www.marcandangel.com/ .

After reading it I decided I would make a post each day in the next 30 day month, so this series began the first of November.  My thought I would break the list out to one a day and focus on that for each day.  If you missed the earlier posts, you can still catch them on my blog.

I also prefer to phrase things in the positive, so planned to take the DON’T and put it in the form of a DO.  However, as I began to start this “series” I found that the author had just posted a follow-up to the original article in the affirmative as I had planned, so I am sharing both the “DON’T” and the “DO”.  Links to the original articles are included in this post so if you just can’t wait for the dispensing of one a day, feel free to enjoy the wisdom of Marc all in one sitting if you choose, or follow along with me for the next 30 days.

from the DON’T list

Stop complaining and feeling sorry for yourself.

Life’s curveballs are thrown for a reason – to shift your path in a direction that is meant for you.  You may not see or understand everything the moment it happens, and it may be tough.  But reflect back on those negative curveballs thrown at you in the past.  You’ll often see that eventually they led you to a better place, person, state of mind, or situation.  So smile!  Let everyone know that today you are a lot stronger than you were yesterday, and you will be.

from the DO list

Start looking for the silver lining in tough situations.

When things are hard, and you feel down, take a few deep breaths and look for the silver lining – the small glimmers of hope.  Remind yourself that you can and will grow stronger from these hard times.  And remain conscious of your blessings and victories – all the things in your life that are right.  Focus on what you have, not on what you haven’t.
