In walks Jacob! A twelve year old real estate agent in training!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping the Mother of one of my long-time clients look for a winter home. My client got married this past year or so and she now has 4 step-kids! Her Mom wanted to buy a home closer to her daughter and new grand kids in Metro Phoenix.
In walks Jacob! A twelve year old real estate agent in training!
My client emailed me earlier and asked if I minded is she and her step-son came along on the tour. Absolutely not - I would love it!! She let me in on Jacob's story - he eats, sleeps and dreams real estate and has for years. I let her know that I'd hire him for the day as my assistant. She knew he'd love that!
At the first complex, the first one to come and shake my hand and greet me was - you got it - Jacob! He was smiling from ear to ear and chatting away and so excited about looking at homes - for real. After the deal of him being my assistant was made, he skipped all the way up the side walk looking for the home with a sign. I FOUND IT, he says! With my cards in hand he was ready to open the lockbox and go in and look around. But wait Jacob, I whispered, be sure to let your clients go in first today! He did and we stayed outside talking about what kinds of questions to ask etc. Ok he says, let's go!
Inside he made observations that made a lot of sense, nice open floor plan, plenty of light, nice cabinets, great patio and courtyard with trees. Seriously the young man sounded like a real estate agent! He also pointed out a few things that needed attention, which was very astute of him. We were all having such a good time watching 'Jacob' in action.
We were able to walk to the 2nd home in the complex. Jacob had a bit of a problem helping me with the lockbox and 4 keys that real agents would have been challenged with - but everyone was patient. He again immediately noticed all the important things to notice. Of course he did! Makes me smile thinking about it!
We had to drive to the 3rd and final home. He figured out the lockbox with my help and let 'his' clients in the home. It was clear he didn't like this one as much as the other two and started to say so - but I whispered - but Jacob it's not what you like, it's what your client likes. How about if we talk about the comparisons and help them see what makes sense for them, OK? And of course he did just that and did a great job!
Jacob's grandma told me he said to her later - you'd better call Anna and 'submit an offer' right away! She assured him it would all work out fine but that she wanted to think about it over night. He reluctantly agreed. And then he said - be sure to keep me updated!
It was a pure delight having this young man be my assistant for the day. I have every belief that Jacob is a born real estate agent and I'd hire him in a heart beat. He's got what it takes, enthusiasm, passion, willingness to learn and he's great with people. This young man has a brilliant future ahead of him!
