“I Don’t Want You to Pull MY Credit as it will Drop My Credit Scores”
This is a great post by my fellow Active Rainer Joe Petrowsky. It's true. One of the biggest misconception is more than one mortgage credit pull will drag your score down. Enjoy the read!
“I Don’t Want You to Pull MY Credit as it will Drop My Credit Scores”
From time to time I will get a call from someone to discuss getting preapproved, credit or credit issues and the person says I don’t want you to pull my credit. Most time I explain that the only way for me to have good information is to review the credit.
I explain there will be little or no change in the scores if I run a new credit within 14 days of any other credit that was previously pulled. There is so much bad information about multiple credit reports that are pulled, but that just comes with much of the information that is out there.
This particular client just called with the same story, I don’t want my credit pulled, but I want to get ready to purchase a home in the spring. She indicated that she has a service that gives her an updated credit report every 3 months and her credit score is almost 600.
I explained that the only way I can coach her to be ready for a spring purchase is to run my own report. She finally said OK. Her credit scores were 496, 512 and 514. The bottom line the information she had about the credit reports she spoke about was just plain BS.
When I told her what her scores were, she told me there must be a mistake. I then went over the main items on the report and it was obvious I had the right information. There were 11 collection items, 2 public record items and a car loan that was 3 years old and had 9 late payments listed.
Even though I gave her some coaching, there are odds she will not be ready to buy in the spring.
