On a sunny Saturday morning in the middle of last September while walking back to my car from the South of the James Farmers Market in Forest Hill Park, I noticed something that caught my attention. To me it was an example of finding history in unexpected places.
What I discovered for myself served as a reminder of the former residence and studio of Frederick William Sievers, on the 1200-block of W. 43rd Street in Richmond, VA. It's in a neighborhood just across from Forest Hill Park called Forest Hill Terrace. In fact, a Virginia Historical Marker in close proximity to a private residence gives pedestrians a short blurb about him.

One fairly well-known statue that Sievers completed is that of Matthew Fontaine Maury, as shown below. To learn more about Maury, simply click the link for his name in the previous sentence.

Isn't it just a bit exciting to find so much history that still exists within our neighborhoods even today? Can you think of similar examples where you live? Sometimes it may take a little time to do a little online investigating, and eventually, the effort taken hopefully will be very worthwhile!
