Pledging 10% of Real Estate Commissions for Selling Richmond VA Homes

Have you ever considered donating 10 percent of your weekly or monthly income to a charitable organization?  Do for think it's a best practice in real estate to pledge donations from one's commissions?

My pledge for 2014 will be to donate at least 10% of all my real estate commissions for the entire year to one or more charitable organizations.  It will be at least a 12-month experiment in faith for me that my business somehow does and will grow exponentially for 2014 and beyond!

Nearing the end of my second year working in residential real estate sales in Richmond, Virginia, I think it would be a good idea to put my money where my mouth is.  For example, I've financially supported several environmental groups like Conservation International that do the kind of important work that's means a lot to me---environmental protection for current and future generations.

Another example of a good cause is animal rescue, and I still give some financial contributions to Richmond Animal League.  The important thing, I think for me, is making giving a regular weekly or monthly habit, and more than just an end-of-year tax deduction!

Tithing, or offering 10 percent of one's weekly income, is something that I did in spurts while actively attending church a few years ago.  However, I now would like to expand my regular giving outside the boundaries of a church.  Do any of you ever support charitable organizations outside the church?  I think a lot of good work can be done both within a church, mosque, synagogue or temple---and outside of it!

So what are your giving goals for 2014?  How are you putting your faith in giving to good causes into action?  For me, making a pledge and signing it and posting it on my bulletin board---even if just for myself---helps me to remember to give back to my community and also for the good health and vitality of our planet!  Also, my personal philosophy is that what type of energy we send out to the world very often does come back to us.

In other words, we can choose to give with a generous heart and know somehow with faith and good works, that financial rewards also come to us.  I happen to have faith that this process does work! Do you believe that regular generous giving from your commissions to others, or other kinds of giving, helps your life?

My Home in Richmond, VA

Even if I were to sell my own home in Richmond, Virginia, I do think "giving forward" a

portion of my real estate commission to a charitable group would be a good thing!

Hi Andrew, I think giving back to a charitable organization is a good thing, we actually give a dollar amount in the name of our clients to a charitable organization on every closing. Thanks for sharing your view of donating its a good practice.

Wow, 10% is an amazing goal. I like to donate my time to habitat and humanity, and veterans. I'm not quite brave enough to pledge 10% of my income. I admire that.
