Eagle Watch on Beaver Lake

Yesterday was an amazing day in NWA. It was a sunny, warm day, stellar for November. I had a record day on my "Eagle Watch". Total count was fifteen. My record all time high was exceeded. I saw EIGHT in one group. The sighting occurred just out of the marina at Prairie Creek  . There is a small island of land about 5 minutes due east. The eagles were soaring above the water and lighting in the trees.

Hobbs State Park offers Eagle Watch Tours. Participate numbers are limited, so call early . You can tour by boat departing Prairie Creek marina.  Schedule below:

Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area offers eagle watch tours on Beaver Lake November 2013 through February 2014.

Eagle watch tours will take place on:

November 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 27, 29, and 30

December 1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 14, 15, 18, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31

January 1, 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, and 26

February 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 22, and 23

According to Becky Moore, park interpreter, “In addition to possibly seeing mature and immature eagles on our tours, we might see other wildlife such as a migrating osprey, great blue heron, king fisher, white-tailed deer, or red-tailed hawk. Everyone on the tour can use our binoculars to help spot Mother Nature’s beautiful creatures.”  Moore added, “We can only take 20 guests at a time, so it’s important that folks call the park in a timely manner to ensure that their names get on the boarding lists.”

Tickets must be purchased in advance by phone, 479-789-5000, or at the Park’s visitor center on Hwy 12 just east of the Hwy 12/War Eagle Road intersection.

What great fun to experience so many sightings of Eagles in your area! I've never seen eight in one group before, but I have seen one or two from time to time in my neck of the woods. Thanks for sharing!
