Carytown in Richmond Virginia offers So Much for Area Pedestrians

Today it's my goal with this post to share my experiences with two more locally-owned, Richmond, Virginia, businesses.  Many other local businesses also are very pedestrian friendly from our neighborhood---just a few blocks away from the Fan District.  Fortunately for me, these two particular businesses featured today are within very easy walking distance from my home!  One of them happens to be a donut shop, and the other is a gift and card store.

First, be prepared to have a healthy appetite.  Dixie Donuts gives a whole new meaning to the word donut.  These aren't cookie-cutter type processed donuts.  The batter is fresh, the donut design ideas are numerous and varied, and more creative donuts designs arise as seasons change and various holidays approach.  Recently, I seem to recall a couple types of pumpkin donuts that went along with the Halloween theme, and now I think this take-out donut shop likely is gearing up for several creative Thanksgiving themes.  It's worth the time to stop by and check it out!

A variety of donuts are on display at Dixie Donuts.      More donut choices at Dixie Donuts

Above is donut variety to please almost anyone.           On display are more delicious customer choices.

It's fun to see parents bring their young children to the shop.  They always look utterly amazed and entertained by the assortment and variety of flavors, colors and designs available!

Dixie Donuts, which just opened last year, already has become very popular in Carytown.

Secondly, Mongrel is a totally different type of business but still has plenty of charm and character.  I think that has a lot to do with simply being locally and independently owned.  Plus a lot of the cards and other items have an eco-conscious story behind them, and I noticed a fair amount of their available products are supporting other small businesses found elsewhere in the US.  Just check the labels!  Mongrel is located just within one block of Dixie Donuts and on the opposite side of the street.  It's very easy to walk from one store and then across the street to the other!

Mongrel has a wide variety of cards and other items.  Many items also are eco-friendly.

Andrew, it's great to be able to walk to shops in your neighborhood! Nice way to feature these two businesses. Those donuts really must be good...someone took a big bite out of one! :-)

Go Andrew!  Promote the small businesses! Nice to have the donut shop within walking distance so you can eat extra and walk off the calories on the way back!

Yes, Silvia and Barbara, those donuts can serve as a delicious reward after a couple miles of walking in neighborhood.  We just need to remember it's the quality rather than quantity of donuts that's important!
