Autumn’s Warm Glow and Salmon Fishing on The American

By

While Salmon fishing is closed from November 1st through December 31st along many areas of the American River.  It continues to remain open on the section of The American River below the SMUD power-line at the southwest boundary of Ancil Hoffman Park in Carmichael, across the river from Rancho Cordova’s Hagan Community Park.

These scenes captured yesterday, were taken along that stretch of The American River Parkway.

The drought has impacted the river’s flow significantly.  As the 3 fishermen in the pictures below, actually walked from one side of the river to the other, with their waistlines barely wet.

Myrl,

Your picture stir in me the emotion of serenity.  My father liked to fish, not so much to catch fish, but to enjoy the peace and quiet and the serenity of nature...Thanks for a precious moment. A

Alexandra - There are days along the American River Parkway, when I lean on my bike and am grateful for the scenes in front of me.

Hi Myrl, thanks for sharing the beautiful photographs. It sounds like you need rain in the Sacramento area.

The American River water levels are low right now Myrl, hope that the rains this year will be on our side.  :)

I am not much of a fisherman, but I think salmon fishing at least once would be worth the time and effort. Great pictures, btw.

Lou - Yes there is!  And, for some reason I'm feeling that magic more this autumn than I have in previous years!

Kwee - We badly need rain to fill up our lakes and reservoirs.  We're hoping for plenty of rain and an abundant snowpack in the Sierra Nevadas to help with that!

Tom - I found it quite shocking to watch the three fishermen pictured actually walk across that river, and not even have water reaching their waistlines.  I'm hopeful, the rains today and tomorrow will help!

Than - I'm not much of a fisherman either.  I will fish if I don't need to use live bait.  I'll catch them, cook them and eat them.  But, there is no way I'm gonna clean a fish!  It's a real problem. . .I like my fish already Safeway wrapped:-)

Hi Myrl,

My one dream is to go salmon fishing in Alaska. I would of course enjoy fishing in Rancho Cordova too. Thanks for showing such beautiful pictures. Hope they caught salmon while there yesterday.

Myrl, what beautiful photos! Your last one could be a Thomas Kinkade painting!  I am saving it to my hard drive to use as a screen saver - it is so beautiful!

Beautiful pictures of the American River, Myrl.  Does the river meet the Pacific Ocean below San Francisco?  I looked for it when we went up to Sonoma.

Bruce - The American River meanders from the crest of the Sierra Nevada range until its confluence with the Sacramento River, near Old Sacramento.  From there it continues until it empties into San Francisco Bay.
