Geodesic Domes Do you have them where you live??

Just curious.

Although this home is not a local one . . . In PA, we have "just a handfull" of Geodesic Domes scattered around the state.

This dome is a fantastic example with 2 stories plus a loft. I don't know if I could buy one but they have always interested me. When I was taking my Residential Appraisal classes, the instructor had mentioned a few appraisals that he did on these types of homes. Needless to say, trying to find "local comps" is pretty much out of the question.

For those who have never seen one. Enjoy.

For those who are familiar with this style, do you have many in your area??

I have seen a few around me.  They just did a piece on one in the Austin American Statesman.  It looked neat but personally I think I would have to have corners!

Brian:

Yes, we have a few and the local junior college (Palomar College) athletic gym room is design as a geodesic dome, and it seem to bring a lot of attention to the school.

I have not seen one in our area.  This type of homes like the round house is probably good on hurricane-prone area because of the wind factor.  We had a geodesic dome from FAO Schwartz for the kids during the 70's and they loved it.

I agree,

I bet they are pretty good during high winds.  I guess placing furniture next to curved walls may be a bit of an experience though..

We used to have one that was the landmark for the turnoff for "Jaws" (famous surf break) - it burned down, but for years people would still say.... "turn off by where the dome house burnt down".
