Graffiti Signs

By

I recently got an email request to follow up on some new graffiti in Franklin Square. I took a look for myself and it's a problem that's always going to be there no matter where you live but I did notice the issue of repeated tagging. I'm not up to date with my gang signs and tags but seeing common symbols is something you want to keep an eye on as well as the rest of the community. It needs to be brought to the Nassau County Police Department's attention as well. Things like graffiti going unnoticed and violators being unaccounted for can lead to more serious crimes. It goes something like the "Broken Windows Theory" where small violations lead to bigger ones. "Consider a building with a few broken windows. If the windows are not repaired, the tendency is for vandals to break a few more windows. Eventually, they may even break into the building, and if it's unoccupied, perhaps become squatters or light fires inside. Or consider a paveent. Some litter accumulates. Soon, more litter accumulates. Eventually, people even start leaving bags of refuse from take-out restaurants there or even break into cars."

Lets stay vigilant and keep an eye out for things like this. I'll be contacting the town to see what and how soon it can be done. Worst case I'll be out there myself taking care of it because I know how important prevention is.

Never hesitate to send questions or concerns my way
