Save the Date for the 2014 Susan G. Komen West Virginia Race for the Cure.
The West Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (WV SGK) is happy to announce that the 2014 Race for the Cure website is now open for registrations! The Annual Race for the Cure is the largest fundraiser that helps to bring in much needed funds for breast cancer screening, treatment and education for uninsured and underinsured West Virginians. WV SGK has raised and distributed $2 million to non-profit organizations, health care providers, hospitals, educational institutions and breast health advocates who manage breast health programs in West Virginia. WV SGK has also raised and invested over $500,000 in Susan G Komen research awards. We are proud to say that we live in West Virginia. We raise money in West Virginia. We save lives in West Virginia
Did you know that every week, 6 women in West Virginia will die from breast cancer? Since its inception in 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s research programs and treatment initiatives have helped to transform most breast cancers from death sentences to treatable chronic illnesses.
Please know that not one cent of the money raised by Susan G. Komen West Virginia goes toward salaries or administrative costs at Komen National. Those costs are borne by national sponsors. As it has always been, 75% of the monies raised is devoted to breast cancer screenings, education and treatment in WV, and 25% goes toward research.
