Too Bad He Didn't Take Our Advice on a Referral
I hear all the time that "agents are not created equal". Usually that is a comment made by an agent talking about other agents. Today I heard that repeated to us, not by an agent, but by a client.
We listed this couple's home several weeks ago and got them under contract after about three weeks of showings. It turned into a multiple offer situation and our client was thrilled with the result. The couple is retiring and moving to New Jersey so they can be close to family.
We wanted very much to refer this client to an AR agent in the area where they were moving, but they declined. A family member "knew" an agent that could help them, so they decided to use this family member's friend. Too bad. They came to regret that choice.
Today our client was back in his house finishing up a few items and getting ready for the move. We met him there to wrap up a couple of loose ends from the home inspection. He related to us a number of difficulties he ran into in New Jersey with his agent. His biggest complaint was that on numerous occasions, his buyer's agent wasn't returning his calls. He said that he and his wife were very frustrated.
When they finally found a home to purchase, he had to explain to his agent why he wanted to see the property condition disclosure. He mentioned other things as well that I won't repeat here.
He commented that maybe he had been spoiled by the level of our service and competence. When we heard that, we felt good...and bad at the same time. We wish he would have given us an opportunity to make a referral. We wish that he had not found out on his own that "all agents are not created equal"!
