Pearl Harbor

December 7th

Too many, too young.  A grateful nation will never forget. Always a sad day for Americans.

USS Arizona Memorial

USS Missouri's 16 inch guns

I could see oil leaking from the ship, even in 2002, over 60 years after it was sunk.  The ship is just below the water surface, having the superstructure cut away and leaving just from the main deck to the keel.  It is a cemetery, a very sad and solemn place.  The names of the dead are listed inside this structure.  You see the names of brothers listed together on the wall.

Ken, we saw the memorial back in the mid 1990's and the solemn nature of the Memorial cannot be forgotten. When I see the date on the calendar, I can hear the words of FDR in my mind, I have to wonder if the world really does remember. Nice post

Ken, sometimes when flying into Honolulu when the wind is blowing from the mountains you can see the oil slick from the ARIZONA all the way out to the harbor entrance.  Thanks for posting this.
