Sometimes Community Service is More Like Self-Service!

Community service is a good way to reach out and connect with people.  It feels good to help others.  Making some contacts in the process also is a good thing.

It does have its own kind of satisfaction and joy which is why we do it except I don't sing :)

Amen to that.  I was just telling friends the other day something so similar.  When I give... I feel I am the blessed one... every single time.

That's great!  I've sang at nursing homes before, and it's such a wonderful return you get from blessing these dear saints!

Our small group at church regularly hosts a Room in the Inn ministry for homeless men. We get so much more out of preparing, serving and then eating a meal with these men. They think they are the ones benefiting, while it's really us.

So true. Service done with a charitable heart is so valuable for yourself that it shouldn't be called charity!

Richard, I only wish I could have been there for one of your gigs.  I'm sure they are awesome.

Richard, I don't get a lot of hands on community service myself (Habitat for Humanity build once a year, giving blood, etc.), mostly Liz is the one with the time to do the community service with Bunny the Chihuahua visiting a senior center and a local hospice.  And most of her Sunday afternoons are at a Petsmart trying to get people to adopt cats.  She gets a lot out of it too.  It's a win-win.
