To Tree or Not to Tree While Selling Your Home? That is the Question
Real estate agent opinions play a critical role in framing both the question and the answer as to whether a home seller should decorate during the Christmas holidays. Some may be of the opinion that decorating during Christmas may turn off buyers that don't celebrate Christmas. However I don't think that I have ever heard the argument that "not" decorating during the holidays will turn off buyers that "do" celebrate Christmas and that too, may be something to think about. Well not really because people should be shopping for homes not religious beliefs or disbeliefs.
For may people, buyers and sellers alike, celebrating Christmas in a grandeur fashion is as much of a tradition as the holiday itself. Many pull out all of the stops and leave no ornament unturned when it comes to decorating for the holiday.
One thing is for sure, you just can't please all of the people all of the time. So when it comes to decorating for Christmas, home sellers may consider scaling back on the Christmas decorations, not so much as to prevent from offending anyone, but consider that an abundance of Christmas decorations may mask the many wonderful features that the home has to offer.
So this year if you have your home on the market for sale, you may want to consider the idea of strategically placing Christmas decorations in such a way that will detract from your home's best selling features.
Remember that home buyers are expecting the "house" to be the star of the show. You don't want home buyers walking away after a showing and only remember the decorations and nothing about the home itself.
As for home buyers, you too have to keep in mind that people celebrate the holidays. Even if you don't celebrate, you shouldn't hold that agains someone that does. Again, you are supposed to be shopping for homes and the decorations don't are not a part of the package.
