Today in honor of Thanksgiving. . .I thought I would blog about one of my Grandmothers. . .Sadina Walraven Heinrich, also known as, Sadie. I called her my Grammy.
What she taught me the short 16 years I had with her:
- Gossip is a dangerous behavior.
- It is better to watch a good drama that create one (She loved Days of Our Lives).
- Dress to kill. . . It will make you feel better (She always dressed to the nines).
- Never gain too much weight (grounds for divorce) so take care of yourself.
- "Just get through it. . .This too shall pass."
- Never give your opinion unless someone asks you for it.
- Know that there will always be people who are jealous of you and who will treat you unfairly, but don't let that change who you are so, continue to dress to kill (LOL).
- It is better to have common sense than book smarts because common sense is what gets you through life. Be sure to show everyone the same amount of respect - educated or otherwise, but do yourself a favor and get an education.
- Choose your words wisely.
- Be responsilble for your choices - own the consequence.
- Just because someone has hurt you beyond measure does not give you the right to hurt them back.
- If you are standing before the thrown of God and Jesus as his hand on your shoulder - how would you act and what would you say. . .and would you be wearing that short skirt?
- Don't over think cooking, if it loses its fun than stop. Life is too short to be that complicated.
- Nothing beats a good cup of Sanka.
- Do your best. . .That is all you can do.
Lastly, you don't have to hash things out, you can just move on. I miss my Grammy terribly and would give anything to have her with me today. I know she would be able to help me through a very difficult situation. I plan to go over the valuable lessons she left me with and I am so grateful for my summers with her. I love that she taught me how to make a cake, and a quick lunch, do laundry (effficeintly), sew and ultimately how to make the most of every situation. I have always wanted to be like her and I am glad I had her as a role model.
Happy Thanksgiving. . .Who has touched your life in a special way?
