IRS Issues Statement With Regard to Shutdown

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with William T. Zumwalt CPA, CTC "The Tax Coach for REALTORS"

I received an e-mail form the IRS with regard to the return to work and the problems they face due to the shutdown of their offices.  It says as follows:

“At this point, we know we received a large amount of correspondence during the closure. We know there will be a substantial increase in demand for our phone services and many other operations. On October 17th, we started reopening our phone lines and our Taxpayer Assistance Centers, both of which will take time to ramp up to normal operating status. In addition, other business operations have started resuming, including the processing of billions of dollars of refunds for individuals and businesses and honoring transcript and authorization requests from third parties.”

As you can imagine, this will take some time to resolve. Should you need immediate attention you should call your nearest Taxpayer Assistance Center or call centers but guess what. Expect long delays in being able to talk with a real person.

Interesting that they readily admit they won't be available to answer the phone, but I guess it makes sense.
