This morning while volunteering at the wildlife center (WERC) we spent more time getting to know our newest Animal Ambassador.
Introducing . . .
The Saw-Whet Owl

| This owl is wild and hasn't been worked with. Note the stern look, raised head feathers and defensive move with the good wing. | Satisfied using a gloved finger as a pacifier, the bird is more cooperative for a while. |
The owl's left wing has no feeling or use making it non-releasable. Earlier this week WERC received the permits required to include the owl in our educational program.
This saw-whet owl came from the mountains in the Santa Cruz / Los Gatos area and is used to quiet woods and minimal human interraction. Fortunately for him, we understand and will help him anyway.
Pssst - There's a Toys-For-Tots Program coming up in Morgan Hill on Saturday, 14 December. Check back for details and find out who will join me there!
As always, let's foresee the possibilities . . . and get results!
