"The Wizard of Oz" to be performed at Amish Acres, Nappanee, Indiana.....

A Kansas Twister drops into the Round Barn Theater at Amish acres and sweeps you away to the land of oz, in L. Frank Baum's play adaptation of  "The Wizard of Oz" .  The play runs through December 31, 2013.

The round barn, which holds the performance, was preserved and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It started as a Dinner Theater in 1971 and added the musical theater performance of the historic farm, called "Plain and Fancy" in 1991.  The play has been running for 26 years.

Since then, the Amish Acres has produced nearly one hundred Broadway musicals, including the one you see in the picture that ran earlier. Some of the others, included Fiddler on the Roof and Zorba.  The Dinner Theater for the Wizard of Oz is November 6. For Ticket Information Call the Box Office at (800) 800-4942.

The Dinners have a theme that accompanies the Performance.  For the Wizard of Oz, you may find such items on the menu as: Aunt Em's Chicken and Dumplins, Lion's share of Potatoes, Yellow Brick Cake and Red Slipper Strawberry Shortcake.

So, follow Dorothy to the Round Barn Theater where you will find the Yellow Brick road and begin your journey to the land of the Wizard of Oz.

The Round Barn Theater is located on the Amish Acres Historic Farm & Heritage Resort on Highway US 6 on the west side of Nappanee.   1600 West Market Street, Nappanee, IN 46550.

I too grew up with and love the Wizard of OZ; that should be an entertaining night - hope you get to go. I only learned recently that they put out a 3D version for the 75th anniversary. That would be kewl!

Larry I love Dinner Theaters and which we had one closer to me.  These are outstanding shows they have performed in the past, and the Wizard of OZ is one of my favorite all time shows.

It's a classic so one can see it over and over. Generally the director changes little things and lines to keep it interesting.

Hi Teral, I think I watched it onece a year for the last 50 years, and I still like it. I have a 3d Version "The Great and Powerful Oz? It follows the stage verion of "Wicked", which is what happend at Oz before Dorothy showed up.  It explains a lot about the Dorethy version.

Hi Debbie, I love this classic. Now, I could go the Amish Acres just for the outstanding Threashers Dinner.  They have great food. The Performance is just a bonus.
