What makes YOU stand out from the other listing agents?

I received a call last week from a property owner who asked me to come over and, "convince him as to why he should use me to sell his property."  I laughed, we made an appointment, and I got my listing presentation together.

It made me rethink what it is about me specifically that sets me apart from other listing agents. The reality is that if an agent is a top producer, and has been a top producer through the market crash we just experienced, that agent is probably doing many of the marketing things that I myself do, as another top producer! Sure my online exposure might be higher, perhaps I send out a few more postcards, my sales numbers may even be higher, but why choose Kim?

I decided to update the personal aspect of my listing presentation. It was fun, and heading into my 13th year as an agent here in Search the Palm Springs Valley I now know what does make me unique in the real estate industry. I had a very successful and interesting career before real estate, as a professional Polo player. How I got into that field, competed in a predominantly male industry, and gained the respect of my peers, is exactly the background that makes me unique.

I have also been in real estate long enough to see how my past career, my dedication and work ethic in that career, as well as the contacts and respect I had in that industry, have directly translated into my real estate career. And that is what I shared at my listing presentation. I have always found it very difficult to talk about myself and my accomplishments, but I think each of us is unique in our own way, and by letting a potential client into our world, we are giving them a glimpse of how and why we may be the perfect fit for them.

Marketing is marketing.  But style and personality is personal.  It turns out that this particular client did in fact, feel that I was a perfect fit, and I got the listing. But had I not have secured this listing, I still walked away from that appointment feeling really good! 

What makes you particularly unique? It might be time to toot your own horn in your listing presentations!

Nothing makes me special or unique, Kimerly - I'm not like you.  I'm fortunate because, since I was a teenager, I've always gotten along well with people a couple generations older then me.  So they're my target market today ... the 55+ community.
