When there's a choice between attending a Tuesday morning sales meeting or volunteering to help plant trees near a local park, what would you do? According to North Richmond News, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is installing a riparian buffer at Bryan Park, and volunteers are needed on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 9AM - noon.
Since this volunteering is for a very good cause and a project that would help the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, I think that I'll sign up for this opportunity. Fortunately the managing broker for our office is very understanding when we have other commitments.
Plus, I think that when we engage in volunteer activities that we believe in, we also have an opportunity to network with others and build relationships. Whether directly or indirectly, I think that volunteering on a fairly consistent basis helps us to cultivate and enlarge our base of contacts and build new friendships. Also, it just feels great to plant trees and help make a difference!
So when presented with the choice between: A) volunteering for a particular project during a work day that's also something you happen to believe in or, B) attending a weekly sales meeting, what would you choose? Would you ever have the flexibility to choose and still keep your job?
