About two years ago my wife and felt that the kids (and us too) were spending too much time in front of the TV. Now, we're not one of those militant anti-TV types. We enjoy our programs like anyone else but we found that having an active TV on in the house was absorbing too much attention and time. Our kids were just staring at the screen and so were we!
So we cut the cord...well, we cut cable. TV that is. We retained our internet access and we did use services like Netflix and Hulu. It has been a world of difference! The kids spend more time in active play and my wife I found a lot more time in our daily schedules. Weekends became fun again!
The difference is that, when you have to go get something to watch (instead of just grabbing the remote and flipping easily through channels), you find that there are more useful and fun things to do. As the saying goes, happiness only comes through struggle. Even when it comes to watching a show! :)
If you are contemplating this, as a more and more households are doing, there are a lot of opportunities for you to enjoy the content you like but on your own terms. And at a far cheaper rate than current cable tv costs. The time saved is priceless.
